women and the gym

I was reading an article on the gym and females and it has led me to add this post on my blog......

I have lifted weights for a couple of years now, and I can tell you that event hough I can lift heavy I in no way look like 'Arnold' and I've never had an injury from lifting heavy in the gym. I take it slow, listen to my body & don't compare my advancement to others.

A pound of muscle and a pound of fat are the same thing...a pound......lean (muscle) is harder and fits in a smaller area. Just because the scale says a certain something doesn't mean that it's reading you as fat.

I'm a woman thru and thru. There is no medical way that I can make my anatomy turn into that of a mans unless I am taking the hormones to do so. No more than stuffing a sock in a certain area will enable me to pee standing up or anything else that may come from that 'area'.

I can stand side by side with a man that weighs more than I do & is taller as well and lift as well if not better than he can. I am more worried about form than amount of weight...but still...it can be and has been done.

I am angered when I'm in the gym & someone treats me like I'm dainty and wants to pick up the weight to get it to where I want it to go...no sir. I don't need help. Setting up my rack is part of my workout. Just because I'm a girl doesn't mean I'm a damsel in distress. I am in here for the very same reason others should be in here...to look better naked (lol) and be in better shape. I don't come to the gym to look cute in my outfit or to be noticed or to be picked up. I come here & sweat more than you may imagine & drag myself home in a state that others may be left to wonder what in the world I did to myself to cause my clothes to be wet.....

I love having a challenge in the gym. I love walking up to a weight & lift it & lift it correctly. I love the adrenalin rush that I get when I've pushed myself further and harder.

I'm not going to lie and say that I get a happy feeling in my heart whenever I see some woman half my age look at me with jealousy & say "how did you get those arms? I'm so jealous".... it's hard work princess...instead of bar hopping and beer drinking this girl was in the gym drinking water out of the water cooler and wiping sweat out of her eyes. Fitness doesn't come easy nor does it come over night...no one naturally looks like they workout in the gym unless they workout in the gym. You can't expect to eat fru fru foods and drink crappy drinks and never workout and think you are going to look as good in your bikini as someone that was dedicated all year long to getting a fit hard body of their own...especially as you age. I've never seen it happen in real life without plastic surgery and honey it's not happening here in this gym I go to.

I live on an island...there's a good bit of bikini wearing and beach going here where I live. I refuse to be the girl that I don't want to see in the mirror. I can't give myself bigger boobs without surgery, I can't magically make those dimples on my legs disappear but I can look pretty good for someone that is 42 and has given birth to 4 children, had multiple tummy surgeries that's left her tummy with huge scars...I can be the best version of me I can be. I can be that self confident woman that doesn't give a rats tail if you judge the heavy weights I lift because honey I worked to get here & I'm proud to be here....when you are ready to put down those doughnuts and cokes I will gladly help you when you need fitness advise or encouragement.

Why (I believe) fitness is important.

these statements are just my personal belief & not meant to take the place of any medical advice, etc.
